Our History

Jonesboro Media Group (formerly Triple FM Radio Group and Jonesboro Radio Group) is Jonesboro, Arkansas’ leading media organization.

A little bit about our history:

The Triple FM Radio Group was first conceived in November 1993 when a group of broadcasters, including local radio veteran Trey Stafford, teamed up to purchase KDXY. In March 1994 they bought a second station, KDEZ (now KEGI).  In September 1997 the group added KJBX to form the “Triple FM Radio Group”. In December 2008, the HD Radio (digital) upgrade of KDXY provided the technology leading to creation of a fourth FM signal for the group, Hot 107.5, the analog rebroadcast of the new digital KDXY-HD2. In November 2009, another HD Radio channel was added to KDXY. KDXY-HD3 was the fifth signal added in 2011, broadcasting EZ 92.7 on the KDXY-HD3 channel as well as 92.7FM.  It was also in 2011 we changed our name from Triple FM Radio Group to Jonesboro Radio Group. Our sixth radio signal was added in February 2014. KJBX-HD2 is broadcasting Outlaw 98.5 on the KJBX-HD2 channel as well as 98.5FM.

Our group now features six FM towers, all in Craighead County, with studios in the historic 1905 Max Meyer building at 314 Union in Downtown Jonesboro.

The three original Jonesboro Radio Group stations target 18–54-year-old adults with the top three formats:  Country, Adult Contemporary and Classic Rock. Hot 107.5, targets 18–34-year-old adults with our new “Tough 40” rhythmic format. EZ 92.7, targets people 35-64 with its blend of light rock from the 70s, 80s and 90s. 98.5 The Outlaw targets adults 35-64 with its classic country format. Jonesboro Radio Group advertisers enjoy, by far, the largest radio listening audience in the Jonesboro market.

On April 2, 2024 we launched JonesboroRightNow.com — a local news site which focuses on the community of Jonesboro and Northeast Arkansas. Our readers consist of the people living in the Northeast Arkansas community – teachers, doctors, mothers, fathers, students, lawyers, and more. The common thread each of these people share is an interest in their community. JonesboroRightNow.com allows them to read about the most current events in the area from breaking news to featured non-profit organizations. It’s all important, because it’s all about our community.

In the past several years we have added additional products to serve our clients in a changing market. Streaming apps to ensure our broadcasts are mobile and available anywhere. Digital and interactive products that use ads on your phone and computers to target customers. Search enhancement tools to ensure clients are “first page of Google” when potential customers search for them. In-dash visual products that enhance radio commercials with visual information and makes them as much as 62% more effective.

The changing market led to a name change February 1, 2025 to Jonesboro Media Group. Radio is still the core product of our organization. But with the addition of our online news site and the increased variety of digital and interactive products it is necessary to make sure our own brand truly reflect who we are and what we do.

The Jonesboro Media Group team is a veteran broadcast team.  President/General Manager Trey Stafford, 1984. KDXY Morning Co-Host Jim Frigo, 1997.  General Sales Manager, Station Manager, KDXY Midday Host Christie Matthews, 1997 and Senior Account Executive Tim Smith, 2011. These are all Jonesboro Media Group team members who have planted their careers, and their lives, here. There are many others with longer-than-industry-norm tenures, getting longer every day, and Jonesboro Media group is better for it.

We love community service:

At Jonesboro Media Group, outperforming the competition isn’t just a trend, it’s a tradition!

And when it comes to Community Service, no other group can compete! That’s why Jonesboro Media Group is the only TWELVE-time (as of 2016) winner of the prestigious Large Market Community Service Award presented each year by the Arkansas Broadcasters Convention. This award includes large market radio and TV stations statewide.  And no group in history has ever won it TWELVE times!

In October of 2015, Jonesboro Media Group was presented the prestigious “Betty T. Sloan Promotion Award” by the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce recognizing JRG for its efforts promoting a positive image of Jonesboro.

KDXY is a two-time winner, and five-time nominee, of the Country Radio Broadcasters “Humanitarian Award” presented each year at the Country Radio Seminar in Nashville.  KDXY has also won the Arkansas Country Music Awards “Country Radio Station of the Year” Award. KDXY morning show hosts Trey Stafford and Jim Frigo as well as Christie Matthews have all won Arkansas CMA “Country Radio Personality of the Year” awards.

The Jonesboro Media Group was recently part of a segment aired by the popular CBS News series “60 Minutes” which featured Northeast Arkansas’ involvement with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

You can’t argue with success! Jonesboro Media Group offers advertisers, by far, the best media value in Jonesboro!
